It’s official: Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco are engaged! “Forever begins now,” Gomez wrote as she announced their news via an Instagram carousel on December 11, with her engagement ring front and center.

In the comments, Blanco responded: “Hey wait…that’s my wife.”

The Instagram announcement cycles through a selection of photos, starting with a close-up of Gomez’s engagement ring, a marquise-shaped diamond stone set on a pavé band. Her nails, of course, were a chic and milestone-ready sheer pink. Next, we see Gomez on a picnic blanket (the engagement scene?) with a bottle of fizz and some discarded Taco Bell.

Gomez and Blanco have been together publicly since December 2023. Professionally, they go way back with a slew of hits: Blanco produced Gomez’s “Same Old Love” and “Kill Em with Kindness” in 2015, and “Trust Nobody” in 2016. Their next major collaboration was on the 2019 song “I Can’t Get Enough” with J Balvin and Tainy. In 2023, Blanco also produced her single “Single Soon.”

Appearing on The Stephen Colbert Show earlier this month, Gomez gave nothing away—or didn’t seem to be aware of the engagement plan. Colbert asked what Blanco’s “intentions” were with “America’s daughter,” to which she replied: “I’m not sure, but I’m having a great time.”

True in all senses: Gomez is a recently announced double Golden Globes nominee for her roles in the film Emilia Pérez and series Only Murders in the Building. And just last week, she picked up the Spotlight award at the Indiewire Honors for her film.

The couple recently spent Thanksgiving together, where Blanco cooked for 50 people. They’ve been a fixture together at events and awards shows, date nights, and for Halloween, they went as Alice in Wonderland and the Mad Hatter.

Speaking previously to Vanity Fair, Gomez said she and the producer felt no pressure to marry. “We always make sure we re protecting what we have, but there’s no rules,” she said. “I want him to always be himself. I always want to be myself.”

“I’ve never been loved this way,” the Rare Beauty mogul added. “He’s just been a light. A complete light in my life. He’s my best friend. I love telling him everything.”

In May, Blanco—known as a hitmaker for Gomez as well as Rihanna, Britney Spears, and SZA—appeared on The Howard Stern Show, and spoke candidly about their relationship. “When I look at her … I’m always just like, I don’t know a world where it could be better than this,’” he told Stern.

Friends and industry peers celebrated their news in the Instagram comments. “Yes I will be the flower girl,” wrote Taylor Swift. Jennifer Aniston, Gwyneth Paltrow, Cardi B, and Lil Nas X were among the thousands sharing their congratulations.

There’s one tradition, however, that Gomez has already confirmed she’ll be swerving. “I’m not changing my name no matter what. I am Selena Gomez. That’s it.”
