This fall, jackets have been reimagined: Bombers come in tweed, capes are quilted in nylon—and Hailey Bieber models them all for Vogue’s August issue in a series of photos styled by none other than Camilla Nickerson.
This season’s assortment of jackets nod to classic styles—the tweed blazer, the quilted coat, the pilot jacket—but come with an unexpected twist. Diamond pad jackets leave navy and black behind for brighter hues, like Eckhaus Latta’s vibrant orange version. Tweed and wool plaid blazers, meanwhile, become an essential layering piece rather than a solo act. Aviator-like bomber jackets have returned, too—choose between Stella McCartney’s elegant satin style or Junya Watanabe’s iteration in a blazer meets bomber hybrid.
And as evidenced by Bieber, all these outerwear pieces pair well with a bare face, pulled-back hair, and little to no jewelry, besides, say, your everyday hoops. This season, we’d like to think the jackets speak for themselves.
Outer Limits
Tailoring that features surprisingly roomy bomber jacket sleeves, like these from Alexander McQueen, makes things all the better to move in. Plus, a multi-textured and multi-layered look from Louis Vuitton is as polished as it is easy to wear.
The More the Merrier
Prada’s graphic printed knits serve as a vibrant and cozy base layer under Stella McCartney’s classic tweedy blazer. For added proportions, top it all off with an overcoat in a similar hue—this one’s from Fendi.
Orange Theory
The hue of this quilted jacket and pair of voluminous tangerine-colored sleeves ranges from energizing to attention-grabbing, depending on your perspective.
