“It’s really my love letter to NYC,” acclaimed filmmaker Spike Lee said Wednesday night at the newly opened Moncler boutique on Madison Avenue where his new short film for the brand was also debuting. Lee, along with designer Thom Browne (both Manhattan-based artists), was enlisted by Moncler to interpret the city in his own way. “It’s got every borough but Staten Island. Why no Staten Island? You know why . . .” said Lee.

While small groups of guests made their way into the screening room to watch Lee’s film, the likes of Michael Avedon, Joan Smalls, Martha Hunt, Arthur Elgort, and Moncler CEO and chairman Remo Ruffini mingled in the brand’s impressive new U.S. flagship store. Near the front was a wall decked out with Browne’s American-flag installation, made up of 28 one-of-kind Moncler puffer jackets in red, white, and blue. (The jackets are now available for purchase on Moncler.com, with all proceeds benefitting the Robin Hood Foundation.)

“I would love to put on one of those Thom Browne jackets!” said model and actress Hari Nef, who arrived in a sparkling gold Gucci number. (She later got her hands on one and sported it at the party.) On a heavier note, when asked how she was feeling about the election, which took place just last week, she said, ”I’m in a lot of pain and I’m stressed because I don’t feel safe.” As she looked up at Browne’s patriotic installation, she added, “But at the same time, I have to go to work and there’s a lot of love, support, and really inspiring resistance right now. I haven’t heard this little talking and seen this much action from my community in a long time.”
