Across all the spring/summer 2025 handbag trends to emerge from the season’s shows, practicality reigned supreme. Scaled-down minis were usurped by capacious totes that came in various shapes and fabrications. Doctor bags—with the same characteristics as those historically carried by physicians—were one of the most functional accessories on the runways, seen at Miu Miu, Jil Sander, Hermès, and The Row.
Vogue’s Spring 2025 Handbag Edit:

On the slightly less practical end of the spectrum, but still a carryover trend from fall, there were swathes of suede bags. Jonathan Anderson introduced his brand new Loafer bag–named for its likeness to the smart penny shoe – while curvaceous versions also arrived at Stella McCartney and Miu Miu (the latter’s came with horsebit hardware).
Then, there were the slimline, horizontally-proportioned east-west bags, a trend that was kickstarted by Pieter Mulier’s Alaïa Le Teckel, which won over fashion insiders this year. Khaite, Versace, and Prada were among several brands to present their respective new-season takes; slung over shoulders or nestled in the crooks of models’ arms.
In addition to spring’s runway standouts, we’ve added the best of the summer 2025 handbag trends that have surfaced so far this season. From The Row’s colorful mesh market totes to crossbody bags with a bohemian spirit. Below, all of the spring and summer 2025 handbag trends to know and shop now.
Market Totes
Fashion is no stranger to turning everyday objects into cult-fashion items and the market tote is back and better than ever for summer 2025. The Row’s striped mesh tote and Chan Luu’s sequinned-trim shopper feel like souvenirs picked up from travels, while Cos and Staud’s will turn trips to the farmer’s market, school drop offs, and the beach all the more fun with one in tow.
Raffia
Crafty fabrications like woven leather, raffia, and crochet received a contemporary update in the spring collections. The Row introduced a basket bag in emerald green, Bottega Veneta debuted a slouchy, leather-trim clutch, and Jacquemus showed crescent-shaped styles in a striped open weave material.
Macramé and Netting
Similar to the look of a fishing net, consider a macramé bag an easy way to add texture to your look. Opt for a classic weave from Saint Laurent or Lemaire or amp it up with Magda Butrym’s sequined style.
Embellished Pouches
’Tis the season for dressing with a more playful tone. An embellished pouch makes it easy to add a bit of color and eccentricity to your summer wardrobe. Think effortless cotton trousers or boxer shorts paired with simple tees or tanks—and a shimmering bag from JW Anderson, Merlette, or Lizzie Fortunato for a festive final touch.
The Doctor Bag
A strong dose of functionality arrived on the spring/summer 2025 runways, in the form of doctor bags. Rectangular versions with curved edges came courtesy of Miu Miu, Jil Sander, and Hermès, rendered in buttery leathers. Styles seen at Louis Vuitton and The Row, meanwhile, took on more compact tubular shapes.
Canvas Carryalls
Following spring’s sumptuous suede and python embossed leathers, consider canvas as a practical and timeless warm-weather alternative for the summer months. A canvas tote strikes a nautical chord, from Miu Miu’s nautical stripes to more traditional iterations from Rue De Verneuil and Toteme.
East-West
Alaïa’s Le Teckel–which means “dachshund” in French and is coined for its Sausage Dog-like proportions–became a cult bag in 2024. At the shows, several designers followed suit on the East-West front: Miuccia Prada debuted various takes on the silhouette, including a rigid leopard-print top-handle and a patent-leather top-handle with buckled details.
Boho Crossbody Bags
Slung across the torso or hung from a shoulder, this summer’s cross bodybags share both a handsfree and carefree attitude. We saw Chloe’s keychain pleated leather style and Valentino’s suede fringe on the spring/summer 2025 runways, but new high summer styles are also available from Alaïa and Loewe’s Paula’s Ibiza capsule. Wear either with a printed maxi dress and lace up sandals and considered your peak summer look sorted.
Soft Touch
An important thing to consider when buying a suede bag is that it will, inevitably, get marked or scuffed—but this arguably adds to its worn-in, retro appeal. Of course, you can have best intentions to look after it well: take note from Miu Miu, where horsebit-adorned, toffee-hued suede handbags were clutched tightly to the body, or JW Anderson, where the brand’s new loafer bags hovered mere centimetres above–but not on!–the ground (and is already available to shop!).
Belted!
Prada’s belt bag was a winning accessory for autumn/winter 2024, and this season, Miuccia and Raf reintroduced the shape, but this time realized with a studded belt closure (there were also bucket versions complete with chainmail belts wrapped around the top). Similar styles were also seen at Proenza Schouler, as carry-everything totes, as well as Toteme, Ferragamo, and Hermès.
Snake Print
Snake is to 2025 what leopard print was to 2024. Animal prints of all kinds have dominated both ready-to-wear and accessories in recent seasons, and for spring, bags of every shape and size were emblazoned with snake patterns. At Dries Van Noten, the print was rendered in cherry red and black, while at Valentino, creative director Alessandro Michele explored natural takes in beiges and browns.
Embrace Color
Neutral accessories often reign supreme on the runways, but for spring, there were plenty of new bags to be found in an array of sprightly hues—from postbox red to buttery yellow and pastels of all varieties. Consider a vibrant companion the best way to reintroduce color to your wardrobe without overhauling your entire closet in 2025.
Slouch Silhouettes
Slouchy bags were the antithesis of the rigid doctor holdalls that took to the runways this season. Supple in their shape and easy to carry, these accessories are no less practical than their structured counterparts–but they boast nonchalant appeal. Chanel’s new 25 bag, a quilted trapeze-shaped chain-handled style, has just the right amount of slouch, while JW Anderson’s loafer-inspired shapes echoes the design details of a classic penny loafer.
