“It’s all real,” revealed Crystal Moselle, director of The Wolfpack and, now, the latest Miu Miu Women’s Tales short, That One Day, at the Metrograph theater last night. “The film is based on this group of skater girls and what they experience as girls who skate in New York City,” explained Moselle. “It follows one girl, Rachelle. It’s drawn from some of her first experiences when she came to New York.”
The girls in the movie—young skaters on Manhattan’s Lower East Side and in Chelsea—came out, alongside Phillip Lim, Helena Christensen, Pamela Love, Harley Viera-Newton, and more, to toast the endeavor over popcorn and Champagne at the theater.
“It’s so good!” exclaimed Tavi Gevinson, who introduced Moselle’s work. “In just under 10 minutes, this film beautifully captures the many pains of embarrassment and empowerment that ushered all of us through adolescence, paying tribute to how important fantasy, personal style, and female friendship are.” Lim was in full agreement. “It was amazing,” said the designer after the screening. “To know who you are at such a young age—I was so impressed by these women.”
