In the midst her 1989 world tour, Taylor Swift has continued to prove that there’s almost nothing she can’t do. Last month, the 25-year-old was credited with saving three girls lives, and now she’s changing Apple policies with just the power of a blog post. In honor of her latest triumph, we’ve culled all of Swift’s top power plays, from removing her music from Spotify to taking her high school best friend as her date to the Grammys.
After Taylor Swift announced she would withhold 1989 from Apple’s new streaming service, the singer took to Tumblr to explain her decision.“I’m sure you are aware that Apple Music will be offering a free three month trial to anyone who signs up for the service,” Swift wrote. “I’m not sure you know that Apple Music will not be paying writers, producers, or artists for those three months.” T-Swift explained that she was not boycotting on her own behalf, but rather for artists who are in less fortunate positions. Her solidarity paid off: Apple s senior vice president of internet software and services tweeted that the company will pay artists for streaming, even during the free trial.
She wrote an op-ed for the Wall Street Journal condemning the use of music streaming. “Music is art, and art is important and rare. Important, rare things are valuable. Valuable things should be paid for.”
In November of 2014, she removed all her music from the streaming service.
She took her high school best friend, Abigail Anderson—of her breakout hit “Fifteen"—as her date to the Grammys.
She and Karlie Kloss celebrated their friendship with a Vogue cover.
Swift is never one to disappoint a fan: She has surprised them at their bridal showers, baked them cookies, and crashed their photo shoots. In July, TSwift outdid herself and gave a girl $90 to celebrate her birthday at her favorite restaurant: Chipotle.
Taylor Swift proves that not only is she in on the joke, she responds to memes sartorially.
She won the Milestone Award at the 50th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards. (And her mother’s pretty great, too.)
She came home with eight trophies from the Billboard Awards.
Her Instagram teases are second to none.
Tay corralled her famous friends—Karlie Kloss, Cara Delevingne, Lena Dunham, Cindy Crawford—for the neo-noir-inspired "Bad Blood" music video.
