Once upon a time on a warm afternoon in West Hollywood, California, before we became homebound by the coronavirus, Teddy Quinlivan swept into The Standard Hotel to reveal her “full fantasy” evening glam. While nights out on the town may not be in the cards at the moment, consider this creative tutorial an escapist tool on a Monday afternoon at home.
The 25 year-old, who cut her teeth walking the runway for Chanel, Saint Laurent, and Louis Vuitton, starts her routine with some skin self-care: Post-cleansing, she works in a hydrating cream mask with a sculpting face tool. “I just do it until I feel like I’m snatched enough,” she jokes. Then, she applies a series of serums, followed by a light moisturizer. “I was just in Tokyo for a job like two days ago and I got this lip balm,” she says of her last skin-care step, a cherry-color ChapStick.
Makeup begins with a quick lash curl and a sheer base of foundation. “You could use a brush,” she says, “but I’m not going to.” Next, she applies a dab of concealer underneath her eyes and on the top of her cheekbones. “I started doing my makeup when I was in middle school,” Quinlivan says, noting that it was against her parents wishes. “I would use foundation as lipstick; I thought I was a goddess.”
“This is quite an intense eye look,” she says as she begins her smoky eye by swiping a light brown shadow across her lids. “I like to apply this darker brown to the crease because I want to elongate,” she explains of her soon-to-be sultry cat-eye gaze. “When I wear mascara, I want my lashes to be seen from Mars,” she says while dabbing on the volumizing formula. “Good morning lashes! Where have you been?”
Next, Quinlivan dabs on a coral-color blush before she contours and highlights her cheekbones. Now for the “fun part,” which, according to the model, is a dot of highlighter at the inner corner of her eye, wet with a spritz of rose water. To fully finish her look, the model applies small strokes to her brows and pats on a nude lipstick.
The final touch? Her holy grail anti-redness eye drops, also procured on a recent trip to Japan. “This is something I would do in the taxi, on the way to the venue,” she says. “This is kind of what I do to feel my best.” And what’s better than that?
