Welcome to Vogue’s first-ever spa guide—a compendium of the 100 best spas worldwide, pulling from the expertise of our global editors. There is a lot out there in the world of wellness, and we are here to sort the cryo from the cold plunge, the infrared light treatment from the IV infusion. Or if your path is a more holistic one—there’s something for you here as well.

Why go here?

Coworth Park’s proximity to London (just a 45-minute drive from the city center or a 20-minute drive from Heathrow Airport), makes it a great option if you’re looking for a weekend spa getaway. The hotel, set in the Berkshire countryside and on the edge of Great Windsor Park, spans over 240 acres and includes an award-winning eco-luxury spa.

What’s the vibe?

Coworth is a country estate with a luxury two-level spa building, nestled among the mature silver maple and English oak trees. There are eight treatment rooms within the light and airy building. It’s a traditional spa in the sense that there are top-to-toe treatments ranging from pedicures to aromatherapy massages. You can visit for one treatment only or opt to stay for the entire day. (There’s an on-site restaurant where you can grab a bite.) It’s a traditional spa concept made modern, and it’s an impressive 14,000 square feet. If James Bond did spas, this would be it.

The history?

Coworth Park is an 18th-century mansion house with a modern spa addition that is still sympathetic to the landscape. Made predominantly from untreated cedar, limestone, and lime hemp, it also boasts a herb garden roof, helping cultivate the illusion of a hidden lair. Also known for its equestrian offering (Ascot racecourse is just down the road), there are plenty of activities on-site should you want more than a pampering afternoon.

What should you try?

The multi-brand offering at the spa means there are plenty of treatments and experiences on offer if you’re unsure what to try. The spa has recently taken on a new hydrafacial treatment that offers a non-invasive skin resurfacing and rejuvenating facial. An instant glow giver, it’s a treatment that works perfectly bolted onto one of their massages—like the Ishga Majestic Massage, which implements an oil developed to celebrate the late Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee. With Windsor Castle as its neighbor, the royal nod feels appropriate.

How environmentally friendly is it?

Coworth Park label their offering an “eco-luxury spa,” priding themselves on their unique use of (supposedly carbon negative) hemp walling, as well as a living roof to help insulate the building. With biomass boilers and recycled materials, such as zinc gutters and fascias, it’s a thoughtfully designed building that hasn’t scrimped on luxury for its sustainability commitment.

What else do we need to know?

If you fancy dinner after a day at the spa, you might want to make a booking in the Michelin-starred Woven by Adam Smith, located in the mansion house. Also be sure to see the Ian Gill sculptures dotted throughout the spa building, including the now iconic piece at the front of the spa. If the weather permits, take in some vitamin D on the sun terrace.

Who can go?

You can book a spot for the day, enjoy the facilities as a guest of the hotel, or if you’re local, become a member and take full advantage of everything the spa has to offer, including the gym and indoor pool.
