In celebration of Vogue’s 130th anniversary, Vogue Business hosted an exclusive event during New York Fashion Week for Advanced Members and guests at the Little Ned.

The theme of the evening was the future of fashion, with guests spanning fashion and technology, with founders from startups including The Fabricant, DressX and The Dematerialised joining investors and executives from brands such as Nike, Ralph Lauren, Proenza Schouler and Chanel.

During the event, Vogue Business senior innovation editor Maghan McDowell interviewed Web3 influencer and investor Gmoney about his new luxury label, 9dcc, which gamifies physical clothing drops through NFTs. Gmoney said he has focused on fashion because of the role it plays in identity, and that he’s attending more fashion week events as Web3 and metaverse communities are increasingly influencing the cultural zeitgeist.

Then, Vogue Business executive Americas editor Hilary Milnes interviewed Shira Sue Carmi, CEO of luxury label Altuzarra, about how the brand has shifted strategy following the pandemic and the role of the fashion show in the brand’s strategy. Shows can sometimes be a “distraction” to the business, Carmi said, but it’s a worthwhile investment: the brand sees an overall lift in sales surrounding the attention on the show.

Carmi also spoke about how she evaluates innovation opportunities. Digital fashion isn’t out of the question and it’s “only a matter of time” before luxury fashion brands expand into this industry, Carmi said, but cautioned that it would likely be years before this becomes a meaningful reality for traditional brands. “We don’t want to make more stuff,” she said. She advised emerging designers to incorporate innovation and sustainability into their businesses from the beginning.
