When Vogue Associate Market Editor Madeline Fass recently attended a wedding in Lake Tahoe, she didn’t feel like wearing a dress. Instead, she went with a sleek silk Beaufille suit. “The wedding was outdoors and it was pretty chilly. Some of the guests were even in fur coats,” she says. “But I was covered up and still felt extremely chic and appropriately dressed.” Fass isn’t the only one opting for the “wedding suit” as a guest. This past month, model Cara Delevingne sported a polished black Giorgio Armani suit when she attended the royal wedding of Princess Eugenie. She chicly accessorized the outfit with a top hat by Nick Fouquet, as well as an unbranded toothpick.
If you’re looking to dip your toe into the world of wedding suits, try starting with black. Helmut Lang offers a nipped-in blazer and flared pants, while Frame Denim’s velvet incarnation comes with a scarf attached to the jacket. For those looking to make a colorful statement, there is an alluring powdered pink suit by Sies Marjan and another in a baby blue hue by Mango. As for pattern lovers, Smythe’s checked natty suit with shiny gold buttons is a safe choice. No matter the suit, one styling tip works for all: Leave the collared shirt at home to lend a subtle sexiness.
