If clothes make the man, logic has it that they also make the television character—which is why, every Sunday night, we observed the outfits on The White Lotus as closely as we did the people: like when Jaclyn wore a shiny, attention-grabbing Valentino mini-dress, or Saxon showed an affinity for needlepoint accessories from Smathers Branson (a WASP-approved brand if ever there was one). And while few would argue that anyone on The White Lotus is aspirational, their clothes sometimes are: This is a really wealthy cohort, and it shows. You can judge Chloe all you want for being with Gary, but the matching pale pink swimsuit and pareo set from Jacquemus that she wore on his yacht is beyond reproach. The same goes for Victoria Ratliff and her Gucci bamboo bag. “We don’t do quiet luxury,” The White Lotus costume designer Alex Bovaird previously told Vogue.
Here, a breakdown of the brands most beloved by this season’s cast of White Lotus guests—and what they said about them.
What she wears: Ciao Lucia, Zimmermann
The takeaway: Piper wants to appear “bohemian,” but will spend $500 and up on a dress to do so.
What she wears: Rachel Comey, Ganni, Gucci
The takeaway: At first, it seems out-of-character for a moneyed southern lady like Victoria Ratliff to wear cult Brooklyn designer Rachel Comey and Copenhagen cool-girl brand Ganni. But perhaps it shows that Victoria Ratliff is more in-the-know than she seems? (Fashion wise, anyway.) Her most obvious designer item? That Gucci bamboo bag. Its main purpose is to carry Lorezapam.
What he wears: Southern Tide, Smathers Branson, Sperry, Brooks Brothers
The takeaway: Saxon typifies Southern frat boy style, and hasn’t felt the need to change it for his Southeast Asia surrounds: brightly colored polos, boat shoes, and American flag paraphernalia remain the order of the day, whether he’s at a tailgate or a five-star resort.
What she wears: Johanna Ortiz, Loewe, Tara Matthews
The takeaway: Laurie wears resort dresses by Colombian designer Johanna Ortiz and designer bags from Loewe and Goyard. They’re designer, just like the clothing worn by her friends Jaclyn and Kate—but not the same designers. “They’re supposed to look interchangeable, but Laurie is the one who’s maybe trying to keep up with the girls,” Bovaird explains.
What she wears: Valentino, Gucci, Alemais, Bottega Veneta, Hermes
The takeaway: More so than any other character on the show, Jacyln loves a logo: in episode six, she wears an oversized Gucci bucket hat, and in episode two, she wears a sparkly dress with “Valentino” written in sequins. In the finale, she wears a dress with an instantly recognizable Hermès print. They’re outfits that grab your attention…which is what she wants.
What she wears: Valentino, Alemais, Ulla Johnson
The takeaway: Jaclyn and Kate wear a lot of the brands, though Kate’s are much more subdued (think Valentino swimwear rather than statement dresses). This checks out: Leslie Bibb, the actor who plays Kate, told Jimmy Fallon that creator Mike White nicknamed the trio of Kate, Jaclyn, and Laurie “the blonde blob”: “He wanted it to feel like doppelgängers,” she said.
What she wears: Jacquemus, Hunza G, My Beachy Side
The takeaway: As a former model who once walked the runways of Paris, it’s fitting that Chloe wears Jacquemus, a French brand known for its sensual clothing and swimwear: she wore a pale pink swimsuit and pareo on Gary’s (well, more like Tanya’s) yacht and a black-and-white dress to dinner at the resort. She’s also a fan of the one-size-fits-all swimwear from Hunza G and poolside coverups by My Beachy Side. Another fan of the latter brand? Her newfound best friend and fellow “much younger girlfriend,” Chelsea—showing the similarities between the two characters’ lifestyles.
What she wears: My Beachy Side, Loewe, vintage
The takeaway: Much of what Chelsea wears isn’t high-end designer. “She has this louche, sexy, Brigitte Bardot [vibe],” costume designer Alex Bovaird told Vogue. “She’s been travelling for several years.” (That coconut bra she wore in episode five was sourced from Barcelona-based vintage dealer Los Féliz.) Meanwhile, you can buy the “Blondie” tank she wore in episode three just about…anywhere. It makes sense: She’s a yoga teacher who openly professes her spirituality and love of astrology, rather than material things (except, maybe, when it comes to her Loewe parrot skirt or JW Anderson sandals—possibly a gift from her boyfriend Rick?).
Perhaps the most telling—and poignant—part of Chelsea’s wardrobe? Her Oliver Peoples shades with pink-hued lenses: actual rose-colored glasses that symbolize her unrelenting optimism…even when a little skepticism is perhaps in order.
What she wears: Verandah, Anthropologie, Suzanne Vinnik, Carolina K
The takeaway: Belinda spends much of season three in a variety of kaftans by Verandah, Anthropologie, or Suzanne Vinnik. They’re colorful and bold—much like Belinda herself in the season 3 finale, in which she wears one by Carolina K with a tropical pattern by Colombian artist Paula Gonzalez. The brand’s caftans regularly retail for around $500…something Belinda can more than afford by the season’s end.
