Curious to know what Vogue editors wear to work? Sure there have been cult films and television series set at fashion magazines that depict stilettos and knife-sharp tailoring, but is that reality or just a really great costume designer?
To give a bit of actual insight into our office wardrobes, I’ve gathered 10 of my colleagues to share what they’re wearing now. Perhaps you have a very specific image of what a fashion editor would wear to the office, but our workwear uniforms run the gamut. Yes, sometimes there are runway shows that inspire our professional style (we’re perpetually dreaming about The Row’s exacting tailoring), but sometimes we find inspiration from timeless high street finds too, especially at labels like The Frankie Shop and Everlane. Each editor has a very unique point of view when it comes to office style, but there’s one common thread: We like to add a splash of fashuuun in the mix with our polished pieces. Read on to see all of the undeniably chic outfits Vogue editors wear to work below.
The Best Basics
“I’m really trying to lean into uniform dressing this winter to take the stress out of getting dressed in early mornings! Currently on rotation you’ll find a pair of dark rinse jeans that feel polished enough for work (Slvrlake’s work well for my petite frame), a crisp tee white tee (I’ve been wearing Sold Out NYC’s on repeat), and an effortless blazer for a little structure (By Malene Birger’s is a recent addition that I’ve been loving). To keep things interesting, I like to bring elements of texture—The Row’s Abby bag in navy suede is high on my wish list—and polish off with statement jewelry. I’m eyeing By Pariah’s stacking rings to add to my everyday rotation. Last not but least, a favorite from last year: Khaite’s Arizona boots, which never fail to take my outfits to the next level. Proof that investment pieces you can wear season after season are worth it!” —Talia Abbas, senior shopping editor
Elegant Separates
“I love getting dressed up for the office, and one of my favorite business-ready staples is a sophisticated maxi skirt. I can never resist a fun pair of shoes and statements jewels. To balance the look, I like to reach for closet staples like a classic turtleneck and a tailored coat.” —Alexis Bennett Parker, senior shopping writer
Ladylike Jackets
“I recently realized I have a couple of cropped collarless jackets which I’m into just throwing on over a pair of slouchy cords. Especially when it’s snowing or raining and the prospect of dressing up seems impossible, it really helps me feel put together. I keep it fun by layering a bright turtleneck underneath.” —Laia Garcia-Furtado, senior fashion news editor
Going Gray
“Inspired by the Copenhagen cool-girl aesthetic of layering the same color in different textures and tones, my motto for cold-weather dressing is to go monochromatic. This season, I’ve been gravitating towards every shade of grey, so I pulled some office-approved pieces that look equally polished when paired together or individually worked into other winter outfits. On top, I opted for a creamy Loewe scarf and picked a pair of classic Khaite boots on the bottom. These essential black and white accessories offer a soft contrast that elevates every so slightly.” —Eliseé Browchuk, experiences production and marketing manager
Essential Layering
“With the return to office, so too is the endless internal debate of what to wear– especially when we just want to bundle up! I tend to opt for closet staple, layerable wardrobe essentials. I love that I can pop them on and style them in a multitude of ways, so I don’t feel drab and tired. Some of my favorites include Jenni Kayne’s Cashmere Turtleneck, Frankie’s Shop Gelso Oversized Blazer and their Malvo Long Skirt, Nour Hammour’s Misha Coat, Toteme’s Slim Knee-High Boot and Quince’s Mongolian Cashmere Wrap.” —Rose Carlisle, special events assistant
Elevated Denim
“During the chilly winter months, layering is key when it comes to office dressing! One second the outdoor wind sends chills up your body and the next, the building’s heating is reminiscent of summer’s past. Starting with a heavy coat and layering with a chic blazer and sweater, preparing for the unpredictable temperature on each floor is less of a feat than imagined. Make the look monochromatic or try pairing summer whites with winter hues for an elevated look.” —Ciarra Lorren Zatorski, fashion editor
Fancy Flats
This season, I’m really leaning into basics—with a hint of some color, a pattern, or texture through my accessories. You truly cannot go wrong with an oversized sweater and jeans in the winter, and a pair of fun flats can really elevate the look. Topped with a leather trench, this outfit formula will be seen in the office more times than not in the next few weeks.” —Kylee McGuigan, associate shopping producer
Double-Duty Denim
“As we settle into 2024, my office-style ethos is all about leaning into classic pieces with a twist! This denim set from Isabel Marant is an easy go-to as I can throw it on with a pair of boots and will be set for my office look.” —Naomi Elizée, editor
Savior Sweaters
“More days than not, you’ll find me in an oversized sweater, a pair of vintage jeans or black pants, and some type of flat shoe or boot. The comfort level is on par with wearing pajamas, but this basic outfit formula always looks classic and refined.” —Mai Morsch, editor
Sharp Suiting
“I’m looking to build my capsule wardrobe alongside my ever-growing addiction to collecting unique vintage pieces. I love classic suiting options reminiscent of a ’90s era Tom Ford style and menswear-inspired looks (The Frankie Shop and Madewell have some of my favorite options) because each piece can be worn as separates or a matching set. Whether you prefer an oversized or tailored fit—suiting always looks put together!” —Conçetta Ciarlo, associate manager of events
Retro-Inspired Pieces
“For the past few years, my New Year’s resolution has been to not buy any new clothing (vintage only!)—but for 2024, I’m sprinkling in a little bit of contemporary designs that I love to wear... then pass along to future generations. Everything still feels firmly rooted in my vintage style, like a sweet ’30s-inspired puff sleeve or a sexy shape that calls to mind the ’60s mini craze, but with modern twists.” —Margaux Anbouba, senior beauty wellness editor
