Willow Smith isn’t afraid of making bold statements. That fearlessness has been present throughout her career: from the “Whip My Hair” days and its colorful mohawks, to grungier tracks like “Transparent Soul,” which featured graphic liners and fulani braids, or the shaved head and midnight-stained lips of her “Purge” video earlier this year.

“The music that I make has a huge influence on how I want to present myself,” the star—who is currently rocking a braided bob and a crimson lip—shares with Vogue over a Zoom call. At the moment, the star admits she’s in a transitional period in both her beauty and musical journey. “I’m really studying the greats like Alice Coltrane and Charlie Parker and diving into their vibes,” she adds. “In general, I’m just tapping into what feels true to me right now.” For the 22-year-old, that includes being the face of yet another one of Mugler’s unique Alien Goddess fragrances: named Supra Florale Eau de Parfum, which launched this month.
“I think the idea of the Alien Goddess campaign in itself is revolutionary and I love how they try to push the envelope in terms of what the mainstream finds beautiful,” she shares, which neatly complements her own artistic goals and approach. “When it comes to scents, I’m really on the hippie side of things. I love a botanical and herby smell.” Supra Florale includes a mélange of notes such as refreshing cactus flower accord, jasmine, and everlasting flower absolute, the latter made up of amber and mineral moss. Smith mentions that her favorite time to wear the scent is during the day as opposed to night. “But I think it’s also very versatile and can be worn anytime,” she shares.

Speaking of versatility, aside from her daily spritz of the new Alien Goddess scent, Smith has been enjoying self-care in the form of the great outdoors. Most recently, she took a weekend trip to the mountains with her German Shepherd mix. “We were letting it rip and jumping in lakes and climbing trees,” she says. Meanwhile, she’s also been taking time to grow her hair out. “It’s definitely been a form of connecting to myself and ancestral self-healing for me.” As for her recent beauty inspiration? Smith has been taking her cues from Questlove’s award-winning Summer of Soul documentary about the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival. “The ‘fros and colorful vibes are big on my mood board right now,” she notes.
And if you’re wondering what’s up next for Smith, fear not—she’s also working on new music. “It’s been a beautiful process and I never thought I could fall in love with music more than I already was,” she says. “I’m really excited to share new songs and continue on this journey of deeply listening to my intuition and inspiring others to do the same.”
