In fashion, it s no longer enough to do one thing and do it well: The feeling is that success requires the multipronged attack. Tod s is the latest label to expand its offerings. Famous for shoes and bags, it is now trumpeting its clothing, too. (For women, the ready-to-wear is designed by recently appointed creative director Alessandra Facchinetti; for men, it is handled by an in-house design team.)

Happily, the label s finesse—though maybe better to call it sprezzatura, this house being as Italian as the Colosseum (also a Diego Della Valle-sponsored venture)—appears to apply to leather clothes as well as leather goods. Though the collection, conceived as an essential wardrobe for the Tod s man, included some handsome knits and a few tailored sport coats, its strongest pieces were in skin. Bombers in cognac leather and buff suede had driving-moc soul reborn in ready-to-wear bodies.
