Urban Duality was the title of the fall 2025 Onitsuka Tiger collection by Italian designer Andrea Pompilio, a celebration of the multiple souls that cohabit within a huge contemporary metropolis. With a specific connection to Tokyo, where the hectic pace of the city contrasts with the rural serenity of the surrounding areas, a melting pot of different styles—combining “what s wrong and what’s right,” as the designer put it—was the main guide for this show. Some ’90s icons such as Lady Diana and her son Prince William, and Michael Jackson, were subtly referenced in small details, such as coated Brit-inspired jackets and crystal studded Mexico 66 sneakers.
But in an incredibly huge city, different aesthetics coexist, thus the Nordic pattern of hand-embroidered sweaters or the western sparkling embellishments that adorned shirts, jackets, and slip dresses. There were also shrunken wardrobe classics: More traditional suits and jackets in black and micro houndstooth were subverted in their proportions, becoming way shorter, as if they had been washed incorrectly. The same treatment was chosen for synthetic leather peacoats that created an interesting contrast with the oversize proposals.
The wide range included accessories. The soft shaped belted boots and the ballerina flats with a metallic squared-toe were the two big fall debuts. The signature Mexico 66 sneakers were matched with another key Onitsuka Tiger piece: the bowling bag, a reinterpretation of one historically conceived with an elongated shape to carry one’s shoes, now reimagined for everyday use.
