It might be Pre-Fall, but Wren s girl is hot. Considering the midsummer delivery date, designer Melissa Coker presented a lovely little set of easy, breezy tops and separates that will serve her customer well until the chill sets in. Coker likes to work in vignettes. The first was a series of navy and white tops, bottoms, skirts, and dresses. "Chic and easy," the designer called them, and she wasn t wrong: A narrow, below-the-knee shirtdress in white showed just a hint of skin at the ribcage, while a white suspender skirt looked cute paired with a navy-and-white-striped tee, the word "Bonjour" jokingly stamped across the front.

Coker s customers have been responding well to her knits, and so she s started making more of them. The standout this season was a pencil skirt and cropped tank in a stained-glass print worn with a pair of simple white sneakers. Coker also experimented with a mesh fabric that she found in Portugal, printing it with a rich purple-and-teal floral pattern.

There were several mini themes throughout the collection, but it felt cohesive anyway. For many years, Wren has seemed like a big, fun project more than a full-fledged line. But that s changed, and now Coker has a brand on her hands. It ll be fun to see where she takes it next.
