Founder: Younchan Chung
Year established: 2015
Known for: Forward-thinking menswear, intricately constructed and deconstructed with unconventional details
Spring 2017 inspiration: When Chung sent his clothes down the runway in Seoul Fashion Week’s Generation Next space—reserved for emerging designers—he left a row of international editors floored. Here was a one-year-old brand presenting meticulously cut, conceptual pieces beyond all expectation. “I’m focused on futurism and creating modern elegance,” said Chung, who graduated from the Samsung Art Design Institute last year. He handed me a slice of agate, stuck onto a pin and used to fasten two turned-up lapels. “These are the kinds of details I like,” he said. “Real stones, wearable fabrics.”
There was a boxy cotton jacket with a split pendant-ring zipper, fastened at the bottom and again at the top to evoke a makeshift breastplate. Denim pants were flipped inside out, so the pockets jutted from the waist, while leather and canvas pouches swung louche-like from single straps. A deconstructed trenchcoat was a standout—a single sleeve detached and worn like an arm warmer, a sharp geometric cut-out playing across the back. “I like to play with those back details,” he said. “My line is based on menswear, but I don’t care who wears it.” Good thing, as plenty of women are taking note.
