Summer is nearly synonymous with the beloved New York City brand Markarian, known for its whimsical floral dresses. And this season, designer Alexandra O’Neill took us to Maine, a summer vacation spot for her and her family. Across the collection were vibrant tiger lilies, a flower commonly found in the state.
Casual separates was a newer category that O’Neill has been working on over the past few years. This season there were easy poplin pieces, like a white button-up and boatneck shirt embroidered with a beaded tiger lily at the chest; it paired wonderfully with matching pants. O’Neill even showcased what the more casual poplin shirt would look like in a formal setting, styling it with a gingham tweed skirt.
For any future summer brides out there (we’re looking at you, Taylor Swift), there was a beautiful strapless white gown embellished with colorful, textural tulle flowers that made the piece unconventional. For the after-party, Markarian’s hero look was a hand-beaded seashell dress that cut right at the ankles. While the brand styled it with a nude slip underneath, you could even embrace the beachiness of it all and show off some more skin.
