Joseph Altuzarra Celebrated His MyTheresa Capsule Collection With a SoHo Dinner
Joseph Altuzarra spent his childhood summers in an Italian town by the sea, nestled between Naples and Rome. And when it came to seeking inspiration for a new capsule collection for MyTheresa (available in October), it was these idyllic excursions that he revisited. “I wanted something that felt like Altuzarra, that felt emotional,” the designer told Vogue. So he took his signature silhouettes and redesigned the colors of the region—think beige, orange, and blue—as well as natural fibers like linen and cotton.
The result, one might think, would be a collection for summering ladies of leisure. But that’s not Altuzarra. “We dress women who have real lives—who need to go to work, who need to go to a dinner after work, who need good day to night options,” Altuzarra said. So that meant fewer wear-once-to-Instagram dresses, and more floral blouses and colorful suits to be worn in any place, in any season. Like, for example, September in New York. In the bustling peak of fashion week, Altuzarra and MyTheresa held a dinner at SoHo hot spot La Mercerie to celebrate the new collaboration. Many of the guests—Laura Love, Shu Pei, Elizabeth Chai Versarhelyi, Casey Fremont, and Amy Sall—wore the new pieces as they dined on delicious fare by chef Marie-Aude Rose. There were salmon and blini, black sea bass, and, for dessert, a fantastic vanilla mille-feuille.
