In New York, An ’80s-Style Dinner With Amir Taghi and Couture Council Young Patrons of the Museum of the Fashion Institute of Technology

The location: Indochine, a snazzy, OG downtown Manhattan restaurant dazzling with remnants of the city’s ‘80s heyday. The cause for celebration: The Couture Council Young Patrons support of the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology’s “Statement Sleeves Exhibition” curated by Colleen Hill. The guest list: New York’s fashion set—Batsheva Hay, Valerie Steele, Lauren Levison, Jalil Johnson, and Maayan Zilberman, and the night s host designer Amir Taghi.

For Taghi, the Houston-raised, NYC-based designer who worked with Oscar de la Renta at just 13 years old, The Museum at FIT was a vital resource. A fan of the institution, though a graduate of Central Saint Martins himself, Taghi organized a family-style meal including grilled eggplant, the restaurant’s shaking beef, and more, ending on the note of a coconut creme brûlée.

Throughout the evening, guests jumped out of their seats to move around, catching up with old friends, making new ones, and savoring the moments of a cozy dinner just ahead of the jam-packed fashion week to come.
