Hours after Stuart Vevers debuted his fall 2020 collection, complete with a performance by Blondie’s Debbie Harry at a Midtown warehouse with a surprising downtown-cool vibe, the Coach community gathered once more at the Standard Grill for a proper celebration.
“The show happens so quickly,” Vevers explained. “You have so little time to speak to people while everything is happening that it’s great to really connect with everyone tonight, especially my husband, who I haven’t seen in a week!”
So many showed up to support that the parlor-like main dining room was transformed into a full Coach affair, with guests of the house including Michael B. Jordan (the current face of the brand), Megan Thee Stallion, Jon Batiste, Koki, Snoh Aalegra, Camila Morrone, Dree Hemingway, Miles Chamley-Watson, Quincy Brown, Yuna, and Peck; all were seated in mixed groups at intimate tables and, of course, everyone was styled by Coach.
Hot table topics ranged from favorite fall looks to pre-Tokyo 2020 talk, which was led by two-time fencing Olympian Chamley-Watson, who is impressively versed in the latest fashion. On the night’s menu were sophisticated takes on American classics like a special reserve burger with foie-gras spread on a pretzel bun and even a house-made root beer float for dessert. Of course, craft cocktails and vino circulated throughout the evening.
The New York brand was equally passionate about celebrating its close-knit community as it was its latest show. “It was Michael’s birthday on Sunday and it’s Megan’s on Saturday, so we’re all about to go do shots!” Vevers declared.
Also in special attendance last night was Jean-Michel Basquiat’s sisters and stepmother, who sat front at the show to watch Basquiat’s niece, Jessica Kelly, unveil the brand’s feature collaboration with Basquiat’s estate on the runway.
“At the end of the day, the inspirations for the collection are so personal, almost personal obsessions,” Vevers explained. “And the fact that I was able to work with my heroes on this collection is a dream come true.”
