Emily Ratajkowski Is the Latest to Wear the Shapewear Trend

Shapewear is back with a curve-skimming bang. In fact, it’s no longer simply being worn underneath clothing, but instead going out in the open as the main event. It’s not hard to see why: The look manages to both subtly cinch the body, while highlighting the streamlined figure at the same time. This past week, Emily Ratajkowski stepped out in New York to walk her dog, wearing a black bodysuit from her own label, Inamorata, with a pair of Adidas sneakers. It isn’t just for casual outings, either. Later that afternoon, she dressed up the piece with a brown belt around the waist, slouchy shin-length heeled white boots, and a reptile print bag.
While going out in full body-con apparel might seem like a bold style move, Ratajkowski is far from the first person to wear her unitard spandex on the street. Earlier this September, Kendall Jenner also wore a black incarnation by Atoir, paired with ’90s-style solo-strap sandals, for a night on the town. Her inspiration for wearing a unitard on the street may come from close to home, too: Jenner’s half-sister Kim Kardashian West recently launched her shapewear label Skims, which retails dozens of styles of whittling bodysuits. So, who will wear the unitard next? Our bets are on Bella Hadid—who we all know is never one to shy away from a look that shows off her silhouette.
