Paris Hilton’s Grammys Purse Is Coming to The Metaverse

At last night’s Grammy Awards ceremony, the prize for the cheekiest accessory had to go to Paris Hilton. The reality star-turned-entrepreneur sashayed into the MGM Grand, looking like a million bucks in a silver Atelier Zuhra gown styled by Nicola Formichetti. Still, Hilton’s pièce de résistance was her one-of-a-kind martini handbag. Covered in 3,404 Swarovski crystals, it was appropriately blingy, but it also doubled as a fully functional flask. A collaboration between Peter Dundas and the Grey Goose brand, it was lovingly crafted by hand, especially for Hilton. While the idea of a cocktail-inspired bag is inherently playful, creating a purse that could hold a drink required patience.“[It’s] not a simple feat,” shared Dundas post-event. “Creating a flask bag requires a bit of engineering, and altogether, it was an active project [completed] over the course of two months.
Evening bags shaped like food have become a red carpet staple, but Dundas sought to go beyond the standard blingy minaudiere.“I wanted the bag to have a festive, glamorous vibe,” Dundas explains. “Traits that I associate with enjoying a martini. It was fun to do a glass shape as a martini lover, but I was also pleased with the blue to crystal ombre we managed to create.” Enlisting friend and fellow designer Marina Raphael of Swarovski to join the collaboration, he worked to incorporate details that nodded to Grey Goose’s history. “There are hand-crafted silver goose charms attached to the crystal strap,” says Dundas. “[They] make the bag even more unique and signature to both brands.”
Such a fantastical piece was perfect for the Grammy Awards, a night Dundas finds especially meaningful. His label made its debut there in 2017 during Beyoncé’s now-legendary medley of hits from her Lemonade album. “I always have fun designing for the Grammys because music is an integral part of my work,” says Dundas. “Music is where I get the greatest inspiration [and] there is a sense of freedom in how artists dress for the ceremony that is special.”
That sense of fun made looks like Hilton’s stand out, but you don’t have to be a celebrity to tote a piece as precious as the martini flask bag. Soon to be offered via NFT on DressX, Dundas’s design will be available to all in the metaverse, where shoppers will be able to purchase a virtual version of the piece along with passes to a corresponding fashion week event. As his second foray into red carpet digital design—his first was Mary J. Blige’s epic Super Bowl look—Dundas is excited to see all the avatars decked out in his work. “I hope it will yield amazing results as a portion of the profits go to charity,” says Dundas, who plans to bring even more multi-functional bags into reality. “I’m excited to evolve [this] collaboration as it’s the little sister of an original piece slated to be unveiled during New York Fashion Week this fall.”
According to Hilton, anyone looking to wear the martini bag is in for a fun time. Post-Grammys, the reality diva described the accessory as only she could. “[The] martini bag is so #Sliving,” she shared, using her trademark portmanteau of slaying and killing it to describe the experience. “I’ve been friends with Peter for years, and I love his designs; they’re cute, chic, and iconic. Wearing this on the red carpet was just the right accessory to complete my Grammy’s look, the cutest shape and the perfect statement piece for a magical night out.” Well said!
