“Tonight, the double Gs stand for Gucci and Goop!” announced Gwyneth Paltrow, presiding over a long and beautifully decorated table laden with fresh flowers and a cornucopia of seasonal fruits and veggies, all sourced from the local Amber Waves farm in Amagansett, naturally. The occasion—a dinner in celebration of Gucci’s summer collection and Goop’s new beauty launch, which took place this past weekend at the actor and wellness guru s home in the Hamptons—marks the first collaboration for these two brands. Paltrow’s history with the Italian house, however, dates back much further to the raspberry red tuxedo suit she famously wore to the VMAs in 1996. (Fashion nerds will recall she re-wore that very same look 25 years later to Gucci s spectacular 100th-anniversary show on Hollywood Boulevards in 2021.)
Dressed in a floral-printed Gucci maxi dress, Paltrow divided the evening s hosting duties in the garden with her friend and longtime stylist Elizabeth Salzman, who draped her trademark waist-length brown hair over a chic knit Gucci vest and trouser set. Together the pair cooked up a charming list of icebreaker questions for their guests, the likes of Jodie Comer, Aerin Lauder, and Gucci Westman. Her daughter Apple was in attendance too and looked summer-party-ready in a black mini dress and hot pink Gucci bag slung over her shoulder. “First (or favorite) summer job?” said photographer Cass Bird reading the first prompt out loud to her seatmate Jimmy Fallon. As it happens, the comedian scored his first gig aged 13 packing groceries. Though he didn’t last long. “I was fired for doing whippets,” he deadpanned.
To curate the menu, Paltrow and Salzman enlisted the help of Mattia Agazzi, the chef responsible for Gucci Osteria da Massimo Bottura, the popular Michelin-starred eatery in Beverly Hills. “Italy in Amagansett” was how he described the fare, which included a delicious artichoke salad, baked cod, and a zesty strawberry and lemon Italian ice dessert.
Before the evening came to a close, Paltrow gave a special mention to her mother Blythe Danner, perhaps the unofficial guest of honor. “Thank you so much, Mom, for letting us walk through your lawn!”
