Images of the Week: Spencer—and Its Chanel Costumes—Hits Theaters

It’s been a big week for fashion. The highly anticipated film Spencer, a gripping portrait of Princess Diana, starring Kristen Stewart, was released in theaters on November 5. Just as striking as Stewart’s performance are the costumes. Costume designer Jacqueline Durran and Stewart were allowed access to Chanel’s archive for the film. Featuring prominently is a recreation of a spring 1998 haute couture gown, which Stewart wears in the poster and in many pivotal scenes of the film. Come for the gowns, stay for the fable. 

On the West Coast, Gucci brought out droves of celebrities for its Love Parade fashion show on Tuesday. Taking place on Hollywood Boulevard, the runway featured a star-studded cast including Phoebe Bridgers, Macaulay Culkin, and Jodie Turner-Smith. While the collection was mesmerizing, one outfit in the front row captured the internet’s eye. Gwyneth Paltrow reprised her iconic red velvet suit from Tom Ford’s fall 1996 collection for Gucci, which she wore to that year’s VMAs. Only this time, she wore current Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele’s iteration he made for the house’s centennial show in April of this year. Never gets old. 

Last weekend, Harry Styles celebrated Halloween with “Harryween,” where he encouraged his fans to come in costume. As for himself? Michele made him a Dorothy Gale costume, down to The Wizard of Oz character’s sparkling red shoes. 

Finally, congratulations are in order for Kendall Jenner, who turned 26 on Wednesday. She celebrated with a spooky birthday party this last weekend, and dressed as a Martian Girl from Tim Burton’s Mars Attacks! Would you expect anything less from the model? See the images of the week below.
