Sotheby’s Latest Guest Curator? Karlie Kloss

Despite the snow-lined streets that blanketed New York City on Tuesday night, art aficionados, collectors, and luminaries across fashion and media gathered for an intimate dinner at Sotheby’s New York to celebrate the auction house’s latest Contemporary Curated auction with this season’s guest curator, Karlie Kloss.
As the elevator doors opened to the third-floor gallery where the festivities took place, guests were greeted by artworks—mostly by women artists—curated by Kloss herself. Derek Blasberg, one of the few attendees to arrive early, showed his support for Kloss, snapping a quick selfie with her against the backdrop of the art pieces. In the corner of the gallery, Jenna Lyons and Cass Bird indulged in a delectable spread of hors d oeuvre, relishing caviar-topped beet chips and spicy tuna with crispy rice. Meanwhile, the arrival of Tory Burch, who turned heads with her studded leather pants, and Wes Gordon, who radiated after the culmination of his Fall/Winter 2024 collection, turned the intimate night into an all-out fashion fête. Among the other esteemed guests were Wendi Murdoch, Erik Torstensson, Amy Griffin, Paul Arnhold, and many more.
Dinner service commenced at 7:30 PM, and attendees were awestruck by the dreamy tablescape, an abundance of pink tulips and ranunculuses that cast a spell of springtime romance, despite the chilly temperatures outside. “An early Valentine’s Day dinner,” as Kloss described. Before courses were served, Sotheby’s CEO Charles F. Stewart thanked Kloss for her contributions as guest curator, and commended her for her work with Kode With Klossy—a non-profit organization that provides young girls with opportunities to dip their toes into the world of tech and coding. “At Sotheby s, when we get someone who is as knowledgeable, as passionate, as committed, and who brings a fascinating philanthropic interest to the effort, it s just so much more meaningful and bigger,” said Stewart.
After his speech, Kloss took center stage and thanked attendees for their support. “This is a family dinner for me. I don t have a prepared speech because this is family. There’s so many people here from so many parts of my life and I m so honored that you came out on what was supposed to be a blizzard,” she said.
Guests enjoyed a perfectly tender Milanese osso buco and fresh sea bass with thinly sliced zucchini meticulously sealed on top. As for dessert, everyone enjoyed a delectable opera cake with fresh berries and gelato. From Kloss’ curation for Sotheby’s, to her non-profit’s recent accomplishments (and not to mention the designers in attendance who wrapped up their fashion week presentations) there was much to celebrate for every attendee.
