Katy Perry Brought Demure Glamour to Fiancé Orlando Bloom’s Film Premiere

Last night, pop superstar Katy Perry touched down in Canada for the annual Toronto International Film Festival—for a special occasion, no less. Her fiancé, Orlando Bloom, premiered his new Sean Ellis film The Cut, in which he stars as a retired boxer attempting to return to the ring for one final round. Supporting her other half, Perry walked the red carpet with Bloom hand-in-hand, the duo modeling complementary fashion looks in the process. Both were dressed in Celine, Bloom choosing a sleek suit and Perry a modern take on Old Hollywood style. “Katy has been a big fan of Hedi [Slimane]’s work for years,” her stylist, Tatiana Waterford, tells Vogue. “We were looking to do something classic that didn’t feel over-the-top, while still having that ‘wow’ factor.”

The end result was wow-worthy indeed. Perry wore Celine’s bra top and elongated skirt, complete with a shimmering one-shoulder overlay. “The draping across the bodice stood out to us, as well as the gorgeous sequins that Celine is known for,” says Waterford, who has been working with Perry for the past four years. For accessories, both agreed that a less-is-more approach fit the bill, including simple, barely-there jewels and shoes. “We were going for timeless and sexy, so a black strappy sandal felt like the most intuitive choice,” Waterford says.

It certainly was a more pared-back and subtle statement than we’re used to from the pop star—and it looked good on her. For Waterford, Perry’s penchant for pushing fashion boundaries is her favorite part of working with her. “Katy is known for her willingness to take risks with fashion, which allows me to have fun with her looks,” says Waterford. “She doesn’t run away screaming if there is something crazy on the rack! She’s super involved in the process which makes collaborating together a dream.”
