Bianca Jagger, Carolina Herrera Celebrate the Debut of Manolo: The Boy Who Made Shoes for Lizards

“It was torture, but it’s a part of the game,” the impossibly modest footwear icon Manolo Blahnik told Vogue last night of the several years spent alongside a documentary film crew. “I’m not good with media. I’m good with factory time and work. I was almost reluctant to tell you the truth. I’ve never been comfortable in front of a camera. Maybe when I was young, but now I don’t like it.” The resulting masterpiece, Manolo: The Boy Who Made Shoes for Lizards, made its debut last night with a Cinema Society celebration held at the Frick Collection on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, and while the designer himself remained unflinchingly humble, a band of Manolo Blahnik evangelists from far and wide all sang their praises for him.
