Early Aughts Glossy Lips Were the Go-To Makeup Trend at the 2025 Met Gala

In a sea of TikTok-driven makeup trends (strawberry flush, “unapproachable” makeup, rising-sign makeup, and whatever else the algorithm decides to feed us), many of our favorite celebs opted out of quick hits of virality and instead tapped into something a bit more classic. For this year’s Met Gala, a nude glossy lip ruled the red carpet.

The 2025 Met Gala celebrates the Costume Institute’s new exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” Co-chairs A$AP Rocky, Colman Domingo, Pharrell Williams, and Lewis Hamilton set the bar high with their modern takes on Black dandyism, dressing with grand capes and meaningful details. Guests followed suit (pun very much intended) and wore tailored pieces paired with braids, structural updos, and a nude glossy lip to tie the entire look together. Zendaya, Coco Jones, Sydney Sweeney, and Simone Biles all sported high shine against their neutral-shade lips, a staple that will match any look. Much like tonight’s theme, the Met’s top beauty trend is transcendent.
