More Black Fashion Designers Are Coming to Nordstrom’s New Concept 012: Black_Space Shop

A commitment to change must be backed up by actions and with a new initiative, Nordstrom is amplifying the presence of Black fashion designers. At 12 Nordstrom stores across the country, including the New York flagship, visitors will find “a dedicated shop developed, designed, and curated by Black voices,” the retailer explains. It’s all part of Concept 012: Black_Space, which launched mid-February, to shine a spotlight on Black-owned, operated, and designed labels . To help with the project, Nordstrom sought out some of our favorite creatives as curators—costume designer Beth Birkett, creative director Harris Elliott, fashion stylist Matthew Henson, interior designer and fashion stylist Marcus Paul, and fashion director at GQ France Azza Yousif.
Together, the tastemaking group populated the shop with baby hair-inspired gold earrings from Birkett’s Bephies Beauty Supply label and Andre Walker’s coffee table-worthy books and magazines. And over the weekend, Nordstrom added more goods into the mix—and will continue to do so through May, until Concept 012: Black_Space comes to a close. The newest arrivals include a floral quilted jacket designed in collaboration with Marcus Paul and Bode, a retro bowling shirt by Coral Studios and Legacy Adesuwa, and a coat-like hoodie by Off-White and Andre Walker.
