Patent or Quilted? Vogue Readers Pick Their Favorite Spring Jacket Trend

This past weekend, as part of our Sunday Reads Instagram series, we asked Vogue’s followers to weigh in on which spring outerwear trends they were most excited to wear this season. The decision came down to patent-leather jackets versus quilted coats. Although we’ve seen the quilting trend pop up beyond just coats and jackets this spring, 74% of readers who voted preferred the slick vinyl topper (compared to 26% for quilted coats). Perhaps it is the more practical choice this spring. A raindrop-resistant jacket feels right for April showers, which are just a few weeks away.
Meanwhile, here in New York temperatures are heating up (it was a high of 69 degrees yesterday), making it a good time to push aside those trusty shearlings, poofy puffers, and wool wrap coats and make room for a lighter offering of spring jackets in the form of patent plaid button-ups, shiny double-breasted camels, and even bright-colored vinyl trenches.
