Friends of Schiaparelli Celebrated the Weird and Wonderful Fall 2022 Collection

Since Daniel Roseberry took the helm of Schiaparelli in 2019, he has imbued the brand with a concrete take on surreal house codes and solidified it as a label that celebs of all kinds can’t get enough of. Think Adele, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Regina King, Cardi B, and Tilda Swinton. Earlier this year at the spring 2022 couture show, all eyes were on Julia Fox and Ye as they sat front row.

For the fall 2022 ready-to-wear collection, Roseberry wanted to do something more casual and intimate, a sort of party-meets-presentation where guests could view the new collection over champagne and surrealist snacks incorporating jelly chocolate eyes and gold-dusted fruit skewers by Balbosté. “I m excited just to be able to welcome people back here,” Roseberry told us right before the event. “It feels exciting to see the people who are in town.”

The cocktail took place inside the Schiaparelli headquarters on 21 Place Vendome, and the walls had newly been decked in brilliant gold (a shade curated by Roseberry that is not too brassy, nor too rose-hued, but infused with pieces of 24 karat gold leaf–and seen throughout the recent collections that are all entirely rendered in black and white).

As guests including Rick Owens, Michele Lamy, Ella Emhoff, Chiara Ferragni, Eva Chen, Paloma Elsesser, Richie Shazam, Peter Do, Violet Chachki, and others mingled, they gawked and posed with pieces from the new collection. The gilded walls were lined with fuzzy shoes covered in extended metal toenails, golden noses, an extravagant pair of bejeweled rings inspired by Edward Scissorhands, and plenty of new bags seen for the first time, featuring muscular torsos rendered in leather and artfully jeweled face bags. A swinging table of surrealist jewels like sunburst eyes and Saturn ring earrings drew a big crowd, while ear-shaped golden evening bags encouraged selfies. Elsewhere, sculpted leather bodices emerged from shearling as they hung from the ceiling. Knits inspired by the founder of the house, Elsa Schiaparelli, were on racks that guests were holding up in front of themselves facing ornate mirrors.

“Everyone who s here has been so supportive, but people really respond to the strongest pieces,” Roseberry added. “It s really great because people aren t really aren t coming to us for the classics. We have all that stuff, but people really want the extraordinary; the little things like the gold pierced belly buttons and things like that.”
