Sienna Miller Talks Being an OG Chloé Girl
Earlier today in Paris, Chloé debuted its fall 2024 collection under the new creative direction of Chemena Kamali. And who better to take in all of the romantic, free-spirited pieces than Sienna Miller, the queen of boho style herself?
The actor and mom, who welcomed her second child in January—a baby girl with boyfriend Oli Green—briefly traded in her motherhood duties to see Kamali’s new fashions in the front row. “The fact that I m in Paris and wearing makeup is a miracle, because I ve been in pajamas for the past 10 weeks,” laughs Miller over the phone post-show. “I’m so happy to be [here] with my family and baby. This morning, I was feeding her and she looked up at me with my makeup on, and she had a very quizzical look in her eye—like she didn t recognize me!”
Juggling a newborn with fashion week is certainly a challenge for any mom. But luckily, Miller says she’s been blessed with an easy postpartum experience this time around. “I’m feeling great,” she says. “I managed to give birth to the easiest baby in the world, who’s already sleeping through the night—which is unheard of. I’m counting my lucky stars and soaking up the sleep. She’s a perfect baby.”
It makes sense the star would make time for a Chloé show, given Miller is an OG fan of the brand. Longtime fashion followers will recall Miller more or less living in Chloé pieces in the early 2000s, igniting a boho-chic movement complete with billowy blouses and the brand’s signature studded Susanna boots—the It shoe of the late aughts. (“I’ve still got them in black and in red,” she says.) Seeing Kamali’s new take on the Chloé aesthetic, Miller loved the “carefree” and feminine spirit of it all. “It was the most beautiful show I’ve seen in a long time,” says Miller. “It was like my dream wardrobe walking past me. It felt so nostalgic—like how the brand felt in the early 2000s.”
The designer’s updated take on boho-chic certainly felt current, but it does call back memories of the 2010s indie-sleaze movement, when stars like Miller would regularly pair Chloé’s more ethereal pieces with edgy skinny jeans and tough buckled boots. Miller, frankly, thinks the trend’s revival in fashion is funny. “The first feeling [I have] is, has it really been that long? Am I that old? I’m in denial,” laughs Miller. “Things that I feel like I wore yesterday are suddenly vintage. It makes me laugh. But there’s a Gen Z spin on it now where, things that were trashy at the time are now chic.” She says the revival has even inspired her to dip back into the aesthetic, too. “I’m like, Can I wear cowboy boots and a mini skirt again? I don’t know if I can get away with it,” she ponders. “But I’m enjoying watching from the sidelines, and cheering them on in my old age.”
Jokes aside, though, Miller says her schedule as a busy mom has influenced the way she dresses these days. Practicality and function, for one, are a new focus. “My style has changed because I don’t have the time to luxuriate. You have to be up and out the door by 7:30 a.m.,” she says. “But I’m ready for a resurgence of some kind.” Her appearance at Chloé, then, served as her foray back into the world of dress up. Miller chose a refined look that juxtaposed both sharp and effortless elements. “It was the most beautiful silk skirt with a lacy tie detail—really feminine—with some super clunky shoes,” Miller says. The black leather jacket she wore, meanwhile, reminded her of a past outerwear piece that got away. “There was a Balenciaga leather jacket by Nicolas Ghesquière that was everything I wanted, but couldn’t afford when I was younger,” she says. “This felt like a modern Chloé spin on that iconic coat, and it brought me immense joy.”
Another fashion mood that Miller is looking forward to experimenting with, as she dips her toes back into experimenting with style? The star is a big fan of the sheer silhouettes and “naked dresses” she’s been seeing on the runways. “I’m really loving the freedom of everything sheer, and that women are celebrating bodies in a way that was never really accepted before,” she says. “I love that women are empowered to wear what they want and people don’t get to criticize them for it. At the moment, I ve got enormous boobs because I m breastfeeding; So maybe I ll get my mom boobs out in a sheer top. We’re setting the nipple free!”
Until then, however, the actor says she will be squeezing in a bit of R&R while in the City of Light for the rest of her eventful week. “My elder daughter s going to come out with her grandmother on her dad s side, and we re going to have our crazy blended family weekend in Paris,” she says. “We’re going to go see the Rothko show!” Soon enough, the actor will also begin doing press for her new film Horizon, an upcoming two-part project directed by Kevin Costner set in the Old West. “But I’ve definitely got a couple more months of maternal bliss,” she says.
