Simon Miller is as L.A. as it gets. The label, which is entering its tween years, as it was launched in 2008, has long called the City of Angels H.Q. From there, designer Chelsea Hansford creates her easygoing yet slick wares for cool girls and boys the world over. And to celebrate her latest collection, Hansford decided to pay homage to her home city with a retro night of rollergirls, burgers, and milkshakes at L.A. diner institution Mel’s Drive-In.
Girls turned up, sporting the label’s slinky ribbed knits and fashion-bucket-list-making bucket bags, to the Sunset Boulevard diner. In the mix were Rainey Qualley, Tallulah Willis, Nathalie Love, Lera Pen, and more. Guests dipped fries into ketchup, sipped on vegan shakes spiked with Gia Coppola wine, and took turns posing by the curvaceous, mid-century cars parked out front. Chateau Marmont’s Arman Nafeei spun actual records—oldies classics that had everyone wanting to twist and shout.
The vibe was Pulp Fiction but with a happy ending as the night concluded with a fireworks show in the parking lot. The evening was commemorated with a special T-shirt created by Simon Miller, the first of many to come. In addition to Mel’s, the label has plans to sync up with other very L.A. locales as the year goes on.
