The Best Hair Looks From the 2024 Met Gala
The hair at the 2024 Met Gala was in a league all its own. What is it about a dreamy theme that makes manes take center stage? Perhaps it’s the transformative nature of hair or its ability to immediately communicate a sense of otherworldliness. Regardless, Met attendees leaned into the power of length—whether worn extra-long, shorn, or manipulated into an intricate updo—and ornamenetal accessories.
First came the cadre of Lady Godiva waves, with everyone from Sarah Jessica Parker to Kendall Jenner to Zoe Saldana opting for some serious extension. Amanda Seyfried’s vining, leaf-bedecked silver coiffure was a counter to Kim Kardashian’s beach-bound blanch, with each style icy and irreverent in its own way. The evening’s themes of birth and decay inspired Chloë Sevigny’s Victorian “mourning hair,” an intricate updo of polished braids looped into bows and blooms. Iris Law’s flippy wet-look pixie played up her spritely features (and stylized eyebrows), while Gwendoline Christie’s cloud of peroxide was an allout ode to her Met-ready Margiela. In the retro-made-new camp, Hari Nef opted for a burgundy bouffant featuring a geometric frame, while Kaia Gerber’s brunette brush-up leaped straight out of the ’60s. For Sydney Sweeney, the Met steps offered an opportunity to test-drive an alter ego, her usual buoyant blonde exchanged for a full-fringed onyx shag.
And because we were in a “Garden of Time,” after all, florals bloomed at every turn. Pins and pink roses sprouted from Taraji P. Henson’s braided bun, and a blush-tone rose and sprays of dried statice adorned Kylie Jenner’s slicked midi-knot, gelled ringlets furthering the effect. Finally, Zendaya’s last look of the evening featured a bouquet of a headpiece—no, really, a literal bouquet.
