When **Woody Allen **s film Annie Hall debuted in 1977, all eyes were on the slyly sexy, gender bending clothes worn by it s awkwardly charming star, Diane Keaton. When the picture won several Oscars the following year (including Best Picture), Keaton stood out again in a sea of frothly frocks on awards night by donning a jaunty suit jacket and long skirt. While this moment couldn t be classified as the offical start of menswear dressing, the iconic images of a hat-and-tie clad Keaton have long been burned in our memory—and enviably so. So, what say you, almost 35 years later, about embracing a little bit of that irreverent, dandyish dressing yourself? Take the staple—a well-cut suit—and push the idea one step further by layering in stripes, brocades, a cap, or maybe a touch of velvet. Need some additional inspiration? Channel Hamish Bowles, Tim Burton, or David Bowie—and get shopping, keeping in mind the look (a great example of which was found here on highsnobiety.com) is best served with a sense of humor.
