It Was a Starry (and Very New York) Front Row at the Chanel Métiers d'Art 2026 Show
Happy Chanel day, to all who celebrate: Today in New York, Chanel designer Matthieu Blazy unveiled his Métiers d Art 2026 collection with not one, but two Manhattan shows.
Following up his highly anticipated spring 2026 debut in Paris back in October, Blazy held a pair of star-studded presentations—one at 3 p.m., another at 7 p.m.—at a nondescript subway station at 168 Bowery, where guests watched models strut in front of a stationed train.
Until today, New York hadn’t hosted a Chanel show since 2018, when the late Karl Lagerfeld presented a Métiers d Art collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, in front of the Temple of Dendur. And, naturally, Blazy’s splashy New York takeover came with a very starry front row. (Would it be a Chanel show otherwise?)
In addition to new house ambassadors like A$AP Rocky and Ayo Edebiri, all manner of Hollywood royalty came out for the affair, including stars such as Tilda Swinton, Meg Ryan, Bowen Yang, Teyana Taylor, Dapper Dan, Kristen Stewart, and Christine Baranski.
What’s more? Many of the A-listers in attendance had personal connections to New York. Rocky, for one, was born and raised in Harlem, while actors like Edebiri and Ryan studied at NYU. While some have since departed the hustle and bustle of the city, many remain fixtures of New York’s cultural scene, like Questlove or SNL’s Yang.
In honor of Chanel’s New York minute, Vogue caught up with the front row and asked them about some of their favorite Big Apple memories and must-haves. Plus, scroll on for even more sightings.

“This outfit felt like it spoke to the show. It feels a little like perhaps a husband has passed away—intentional or not, it s unclear, but I m very glamorous in the grieving process. I would take this outfit to the theater in New York! I would take my hat off, because that can be an annoyance to many. There is an outspoken, older theater audience who would have something to say about my hat.”

“I would wear this Chanel outfit if I was trying to have a really classic New York day. I would leave my house in Brooklyn and stay at the Hotel Chelsea in Manhattan. Maybe go down to Dime’s Square, or Scarr’s Pizza. Or, if I stayed in Brooklyn, I’d walk the Brooklyn Heights Promenade and go to River Deli, an amazing Sardinian restaurant. Or I’d just get stoned and play video games at home. Sometimes I forget that I live in the best city in the world, because I’ve lived here so long.”

“I m extra, so I m feeling very Miranda Priestley in this outfit right now. I would wear this in New York anywhere, and just like how I m wearing it now. I m from New York, so the fashion is different here. The layers, the textures—it s all about being unapologetically yourself.”

“To me, this outfit is very retro 1960s, so I went full Diana Vreeland to accommodate these incredible earrings. I’ve spent a lot of time here in New York—I’ve been here since 1970. I first lived on the Upper West Side near Julliard: Some of my fondest memories are trying to get an inexpensive ticket to the opera or the ballet at Lincoln Center. When I met my late husband, he also used to drive me on his BMW motorcycle—named Lucifer!—around Chinatown and the Lower East Side. Now I’ve made it back uptown. I’m an avid Upper East Sider. I would like to take this outfit to this new restaurant there, Chez Fifi.”

“I would wear this Chanel outfit everywhere. I would spend a day off in New York riding a bicycle, walking around. Go to a jazz club, or have dinner with my kids. I would describe New York City as a melting pot of diversity. New York is similar to different fashion-forward cities like Paris and Tokyo—it’s a metropolitan city with fashionable people. New York is influential to everyone. [My favorite thing is] the people.”
