These days, it seems as if most celebrities are subscribing to the “less (fabric) is more” theory of dressing, flaunting their hard-earned physiques all over the weeklies and on the red carpet. So when Diane Kruger arrived at the Chanel spring 2013 couture show in January wearing a black-and-white checked Peter Pan–collared dress accessorized with a beret and braided hair, the look struck me as daringly modest and counterintuitive—and clearly, the early signs of a shift in style.
So, when I came across this photo on teampeterstigter.com this week, it bolstered my hope that the idea of dressing demurely is indeed catching on. And certainly not at the expense of creativity or that ever-elusive cool factor. Adding bottle-cap sunglasses or a bomber jacket to buttoned-down polish demonstrates that suddenly it’s actually hip to be (just a bit) square.
