Winter has officially begun and, as to be expected, the season is still trying to find its stride, temperature-wise. One day, it’s below freezing with overcast skies and the very next, it’s 50 degrees and sunny. For those of you on the East Coast this weekend, you know of what I speak. So what is the best way to be prepared for the fluctuations? Lots of layers. Now, before you recoil with the usual excuses (they make you look bulky; it gives off a sloppy, not pulled-together vibe), take a look at this downright adorable picture of a student named Kyra, who recently appeared on the blog <span style="text-decoration: underline;" The Locals.</span By mixing up textures and silhouettes (notice the effect of the cape over the cableknit sweater—it’s a more inventive take on the usual shirt-under-a-sweater), adding contrasting accessories (a polished bag lends the look structure) and paying close mind to the importance of a few romantic, ladylike touches (eyelet gloves, crimson nail polish, and a delicate chain necklace), she makes it clear that bundling up does not mean sacrificing style. How can you change up your layering routine? Here are a few pieces that will bring not only warmth, but depth to your closet. Take a look, and don’t forget to send us your favorite layering pieces so we can put them on to our shopping list.
