18 of the Best Vintage Dresses to Have Graced the Cannes Red Carpet

The Cannes Film Festival has delivered some memorable fashion moments over the decades—including stand-out vintage looks from the likes of Kirsten Dunst, Angelina Jolie and Kate Moss, all of whom were early champions of wearing archival pieces on the red carpet.

As concerns around sustainability continue to grow, we’ve seen more A-listers adopt the trend of plucking looks from the past, including Margot Robbie, Cate Blanchett and Bella Hadid. The latter wore no fewer than five vintage gowns at Cannes in 2022, including three archival Versace looks, a Tom Ford-era Gucci number, and an ’80s Chanel dress. More recently, we’ve seen the likes of Lily-Rose Depp sporting vintage on the Croisette, with the actor wearing a Chanel sequined minidress originally worn by Christy Turlington at last year’s festival.

This year, meanwhile, a number of throwback designs have also made an appearance on the red carpet—including Naomi Campbell, who wore a vintage Chanel haute couture dress that she herself originally debuted on the runway back in 1996.
