Virginia Smith’s Guide to the Hudson Valley
When she’s not busy in downtown Manhattan putting together issues of Vogue, Virginia Smith is upstate with her family. Dubbed “Williamsburg on the Hudson” by The New York Times, the beautiful river valley is teeming with activities, cultural and outdoorsy. It’s a place where locavores rub shoulders with locals, and the stores are city-sophisticated. Here, the Fashion Market and Accessories Director shares some of her favorite places to shop, eat, and hike.

Upstate is all about being outdoors. A favorite hike is Bash Bish Falls on the border with Massachusetts—one of the prettiest waterfalls in the area.

This beautiful historic mansion and grounds was once owned by the prominent Livingston family. It’s just off the Hudson River, the perfect place for a picnic, or as I discovered, a wedding.

Luckily for us, chef Zak Pelaccio moved upstate full-time to open Fish Game about four years ago. This former blacksmith shop takes the farm-to-table idea to a whole new level. It was also a James Beard Foundation Award 2015 nominee.

Joan Osofsky is one of the Hudson Valley originals. She has three superchic home stores in Rhinebeck, Pine Plains, and Great Barrington, Massachusetts. Amazing taste and a great cheerleader for the Hudson Valley.
