These Were the Wildest Looks from the Oscars 2024 After Parties
As fas as Oscars fashion goes, the event itself is known for being classic at best and snoozy at worst. Hollywood’s biggest night is usually the place where celebrities play it safe, both to match the event’s more serious tone, and—for nominees—to be preserved in our cultural memory in something they won’t regret. But the Vanity Fair Oscars party is a place for stars to let loose, and this year proved no exception.
Some of our favorites opted for some more avant garde takes on traditional awards season gowns. Emily Ratajkowski wore an off-kilter Jacquemus dress that would be perfectly welcome on the awards circuit—if not for its side boob-baring skew. Others played with volume: Irina Shayk and Julia Fox wore bolts of tulle, while Chloe Bailey and Kelly Rowland’s skirts demanded our attention.
Of course, the sheer trend also made an appearance at the afters, and attendees took different approaches to baring it all. Florence Pugh—ever a proponent of the trend—turned to Simone Rocha’s Jean Paul Gaultier for her diaphanous look, and Anitta opted for a sleek chainmail Fendi couture.
The Vanity Fair party also proved a welcome place for experimentation with menswear. Ncuti Gatwa wore a silver breastplate molded to his body, while Russel Westbrook ditched the sleeves on his suit. Colman Domingo, our awards season darling, also got a bit surrealist with a Balmain coat printed with a zoomed-in face.
Below, check out the wildest post-Oscars fashion, from Anya Taylor-Joy’s bejeweled Miss Sohee swim cap, to Tracee Ellis Ross’s trompe l’oeil Balmain.
