Yseult Just Shut Down the Paris 2024 Closing Ceremony—But First, the French Singer Invited Vogue to Get Ready With Her
Perhaps you’ve yet to hear Yseult’s previous projects Rouge (2019), Noir (2019), and Brut (2020), or somehow missed the French singer’s otherworldly Cannes red carpet wardrobe. But following her rendition of “My Way” at the Paris 2024 closing ceremony—the famed Frank Sinatra ballad originally recorded in French by Claude François—surely you’ve taken note.
“I did my rehearsal yesterday, and now I’m just chilling,” Yseult told Vogue from the City of Light as she prepared to take the stage. It has been a decade since the 29-year-old artist and model rose to prominence as the runner-up on Nouvelle Star, the French singing competition show. And though she has a cache of hit songs, sold-out performances, and fashion and beauty campaigns to her credit, she is, in many ways, just getting started.
Up next? An album with a decidedly punk-rock sound (a departure from the moody, melodious love songs she’s known for) and a foray into the US market. And it’s all being done on her terms.
“We are in 2024, and for me, it’s important as an artist now more than ever to know your worth, to defend yourself, and to protect yourself, because the music industry is kind of wild,” she says. “I am my own manager, producer, and A&R.” This means, she tells us, she’s “always working,” and rarely without her laptop. “At the studio I’ll have my computer on the side to manage everything, and at the same time I’m being an artist and creating music.”
Today, however, she traded that computer for a custom Dior dress and Chopard jewels. Alongside stylist Jonathan Huguet, makeup artist Clotilde Puvis de Chavanne, and hair stylist Ivana Silvestre de Jesus, Yseult turned out a look befitting of the monumental evening.
“I feel emotional and I feel proud," Yseult says. “Proud of myself and proud of my team. It’s an honor to sing in my country, surrounded by beautiful souls.”
