I decided to paint the stairs blue to add color and it works well with the combination of the wood and brass that decorate the steps. On the wall to the left underneath a tiny portrait of Frida Kahlo, I hung a picture of my grandmother teaching my mother how to play the piano.”

The swimming pool photograph is from Jean-François Chermann, and the velvet sofa is from AM.PM. On the floor are carpets I purchased on trips to Afghanistan and Morocco.”
