Hey Vogue, I m Dua Lipa.
We re in Atlanta, Georgia on the Radical Optimism Tour
and I m about to introduce you
to Lorenzo Posocco, my stylist,
and we re gonna show you some of the looks.
Come on.
[upbeat music begins]
This is Lorenzo Posocco, my stylist,
and one of my closest friends.
We have been working together for 10 years.
10 years.
[Dua Lipa] We ve really grown up together.
I mean I was already grown up.
Yeah, you were grown up though.
[Lorenzo laughs]
We met in London in 2015,
and I was doing the cover of an Italian magazine,
and Lorenzo was the stylist on it.
To be honest, it was kind of like love at first sight.
We kind of had this like immediate closeness.
Everything was fun and light,
but also I think there was just like immediate trust.
We were just both so in it creatively, it was,
and always is just really fun.
The creative of the Radical Optimism tour
was so much about natural elements.
So there s water, there s fire, there s air,
of course there s a lot of space things,
cause there s a lot of that resemblance in my music.
And so I guess it was for us just sitting down
and dissecting how we can match something
that felt really grand and high fashion
that works for stage,
that also works with the story of the record.
The show is five acts.
Five acts.
But then in some acts we add pieces on and take them off.
So I guess in total it s about.
Seven.
Seven looks.
I mean seven, eight.
[Dua Lipa] So we start with the Jean Paul Gaultier.
I m obsessed with this one.
Also, it just shines so much.
There s no other jewelry or accessories or anything,
like this is the whole, this is the look.
[Lorenzo] And then what we like
is just the way the leather.
[Dua Lipa] Starts getting a little bit worn and creased.
[Lorenzo] Yeah, we love that.
[Dua Lipa] I love that feeling,
cause it makes it feel almost like a bit vintagey.
We started with like satin pastels
that went into that kind of watery effect.
And then the second song, End of an Era with feathers.
So it all kind of lent itself to like water,
air, the pastels.
Yeah, this kind of like showgirl kind of like attitude.
I love because it looked like a picture from the fifties,
forties, just like it s very magical, I mean on stage.
And it s very difficult to create something
that it could read also in that way.
Just like especially on a big stage
with lighting and everything.
And so we created this very feminine, very romantic,
but at the same time strong,
because the first look on stage is very, very powerful.
I love a heel.
I feel really confident in a heel,
and I feel like I can do anything.
When I m dancing so much,
it s really important to have a lot of ankle support.
And so boots have always lent themselves to that.
[Lorenzo] It has to be like a certain like heel,
the zip on the side, and then the structure, the bind.
I feel lucky to have shoes custom made
to really help aid the performance.
We go into the Gucci look, so that happened second.
There was like this moment with a chair,
which is like iconic.
And in the first part of the tour
there was Valentino doing this.
So it was like the catsuit with crystal and Swarovski.
We did in the red, and the black, and the white,
and then for the US tour was all Gucci.
[Dua Lipa] I feel like it really compliments the visuals
of that part of the set, which is, to begin with,
quite bright lights, and then the image on the screen
is kind of this black and white burlesque kind of imagery.
And then when we go into Levitating
and it goes into more of the cosmos,
the outfit almost looks like it s part of the background.
We re all kind of in this space world,
which is also a little nod to Future Nostalgia.
Then we move into the band part of the show,
which is to me one of my favorite.
It s just kind of this intimate moment of me and the band
in the middle of the arena.
I guess what I love about this show overall
is it shows all the different sides of me.
The band part is such an important part for me,
because it s really how everything started as well.
The first tour we ever did together, which was really small,
it was a suit jacket and a bra and baggy pants.
I feel like this show just takes me down memory lane.
[Lorenzo] And then we go into the club part,
which is more fun and just like crazy and rave.
And we did two looks with The Attico
for the first two legs of the tour.
And then we did courrèges for the stadium tour in the UK.
And this time we thought like to bring Chanel in that part.
It s very heavy.
[Dua Lipa] It s about seven kilos.
And then also with the gloves and everything.
So this is really a workout in itself.
I m obsessed with this look.
For the club section when the lights kind of go down,
you want something that really stands out in low visibility,
club lighting, something that really
kind of captures your eye and lends itself
really perfectly to the moment in the show.
I feel like nothing shines brighter than that Chanel.
It does its own talking.
It s amazing.
Yeah.
[Lorenzo] Inspiration was this Christy Turlington look
worn like in the nineties,
and it s a real special piece.
[Dua Lipa] Yeah.
And that also has the necklace too, which is also heavy.
[Lorenzo] It s so heavy.
It s just too fab to not do it.
I ll literally do anything for the fashion.
Yeah.
[upbeat music continues]
[Dua Lipa] we go into Balenciaga.
[Lorenzo] I m in love with this look.
So the shoes are attached to the tights.
Here we had to do a little modification.
We have like our elastic in here, so when I m dancing,
my foot s not just gonna fly out the shoe.
[Lorenzo] And then we got a matching bra
with this beautiful silhouette.
We tried a coat on and Dua said like,
Lorenzo, it s too heavy.
Really, really heavy.
It is very heavy.
I m literally like, I m suspended in midair
and I m wearing this incredibly heavy coat,
and I m trying to do my moves.
[Lorenzo] The shoulder.
[Dua Lipa] And it s so heavy, but it looks really good.
[Lorenzo] Looks amazing.
And I m like, all right, fuck it, I ll do it.
It doesn t matter.
[Lorenzo] When we saw the fire and the coat on top,
I said like, no, this is so iconic.
It s too much fun not to suffer a little bit for it.
I mean, good for me, but I mean, I dunno for her.
Nice for you to look at.
Oh, cotton candy pink as well.
I m obsessed.
I love this color.
We done white, we ve done red,
we ve done like electric blue.
[Lorenzo] Actually it was amazing,
because for the UK we did like.
[Dua Lipa] A Union Jack reveal.
That was very, very fun.
I also like went through like insane downpour in Liverpool.
It was like torrential rain it and it was amazing.
Let me hear you as loud as you can!
It didn t go like what you d think
like a drowned rat would look like.
Actually it stayed really intact.
Can really weather any storm.
And then the Schiaparelli, that is our encore costume.
Honestly, every time I wear it, I feel so lucky.
The ribs on it, and the detailing, and the little mirrors.
I mean this is like the most incredible showpiece.
The cage is from like Schiaparelli archive,
and this kind of embroider is an inspiration
from the collection.
And Daniel was also like, remember what she wore
for the Golden Globes, because the design was the same.
[Dua Lipa] I love that dress so much.
I didn t even think for a second to try and see
if I could sit in it.
And I was like, okay, I love this outfit.
It s perfect.
I walked there, I got on a big bus, I took the picture,
and then it got to the point where I had to sit down
in a chair and I was like, oh, fuck.
Like I actually can t.
So I like proceeded to pretty much lay down.
[Lorenzo] Just laid down.
The whole Golden Globes I was like horizontal.
And so it was really fun collaborating with Schiaparelli
and creating something that s just
such an incredible couture piece for the show.
But it d be something
that I can do cartwheels in, basically.
Taking like fashion pieces on stage
is always like very challenging, but that s what we want.
So just like we are always trying,
we work with big fashion houses,
since like also Future Nostalgia tour.
I mean the Mugler moment was like iconic.
It s so different when it comes to preparing for something
that s like red carpet,
and then it s completely different
for how you prepare for a tour.
Usually we do a lot of show rehearsals.
It s basically down to a timer,
so we know exactly how long the break is
from one act into the other.
I m completely naked.
[Lorenzo] Yeah.
When I m doing my quick change.
it s basically a choreographed dance,
where we know exactly what pieces come off first.
I do some things, they do something,
slowly we like wiggle it down, and then it s like,
all right, one thing, then the bra, then the pants,
then the, you know, everything s in a specific order,
and we ve timed it over and over again,
and now we are like, there s so much buffer time.
We got so good at it.
And I m glad that it s not part of my job
because I m not good at all.
I m not a quick changer for sure.
[Dua laughs]
I have the vision, but that s it.
[Dua Lipa] For hair, we do the same thing every night
and we just go for sexy show hair.
Hair that just moves really beautifully throughout the show.
The sweatier I get as the show moves on,
it works well with all of that.
And for the makeup, almost like a disco influence.
There s always a lot of sparkle and shine,
and we love shimmer on the lips.
And working with Katie, she loves glitter as much as I do.
It really compliments the wardrobe,
and it really goes with every look.
[Lorenzo] When we work about a dancer,
it s like it s all part of the picture.
It s important for me to keep the elements
very consistent also to Dua s looks.
So we are working with the same colors, same silhouette,
but of course in a different way.
You know, just like Dua needs to pop in between the dancer,
but at the same time the need to be
on the same page of her.
We want to make sure that everybody feels good
and so everything gets altered and fixed and changed
until every single person feels really confident.
When you like what you re wearing, when you feel good in it,
when you feel empowered and confident,
then you are like, performance is like easy.
You don t have to worry about other things.
[upbeat music continues]
All right guys, I gotta go.
I gotta change into my first look,
and I ll see you guys right outside.
[upbeat music continues]
All right, ready in my first look.
Ready for stage and I gotta go.
Everyone s waiting for me.
Mwah, see ya!
[audience cheers]
