Channing Tatum’s First Runway Show in Milan

[Tim] Can you just tell us your name

Hi, I m Tim Blanks with Style.com.

In March 2002, Neil Barrett

was about to stage his very first men s wear show

and he said, I ve got this model in the show

and I really think you should meet him.

It s first time ever in Milan.

So we met, we talked, and I thought,

this is a good guy to talk to.

How old are you?

21.

[Tim] Now, how is it that you came to be a model?

Started out as, actually, a dancer.

Was doing choreographed stuff, videos and whatnot.

That wasn t making too much money, so,

figured I d try something else.

I have to say that Channing Tatum

on a catwalk didn t linger in my memory, particularly.

What did linger was, the conversation that we had.

Because he was really, really personable.

I was always like, the jock in high school.

Trying to gain weight and play sports,

but never thought I d be doing this.

[Tim] And now you have to lose weight, you have to reduce.

Trying to-- No carbs, no drinking, no nothing.

[Tim] And you re prepared to do that, for this job?

I m gonna try.

A lot of models, when you meet them,

they think there s a way a model s supposed to be.

Especially guys.

They re supposed to be a little bit like,

Eh, you know, whatever, modeling.

Channing wasn t like that.

He just, was very together.

It s kind of like performing.

You ask somebody, What are you looking for?

You re looking for aggressive, or sexy, or whatnot.

I kind of like it, it s a little bit of a challenge.

Kind of have to learn how to read people,

and create what they are looking for.

I ve always been kind of interested in

fashion and whatnot. Really?

Yeah, interested as in,

how can I be different than everyone else?

Channing had something that just made him special,

made him very memorable.

I mean, even before he went on

to become Channing Tatum, superstar.

I remembered that interview.

Speaking to him at the time,

I just knew that were gonna to see something else from him.

Who would you like to meet, if you could meet anyone?

Kate Moss, definitely.

I don t know, she s got a lot of history

from what I ve found out about her.

Lots.

(laughing)

What do you wanna to do with this, then?

What do you think you can turn it into?

I don t know if I m a longterm model.

I don t really think I got what it takes to be,

like, make a million bucks or whatever.

But I would love to go on to acting,

or I d love to even get into

some kind of designing or something like that.

I don t know, we ll see.

You know, kinda just like seeing where it goes from there.

Always looking for new opportunities.
