Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations - Ugly Chic
Released on 05/07/2012
Beauty, ah, beauty.
I remember my mother used to say to my sister
that she was beautiful and I was ugly.
I went out into the garden and I found some seeds.
I know, I know, I remember
you putting flowers in your face.
Yes. [laughing]
All my life is working against the cliche of beauty,
probably and the necessity and obligation
of being sexy, of being beautiful.
And I have nothing against being beautiful and sexy but
I like when it is a choice.
I carried this passion for a new beauty,
new ways of beautifying myself, new techniques.
I m kind of famous for introducing ugly,
ugliness in fashion.
But it s not that I introduced ugliness in fashion.
They want to introduce normal life and pure life
and what is around.
I wanted to really try to understand what is beauty
and what is a possible beauty today.
Yes, I ve taken from all around me,
cellophane, bark, glass..
A possible beauty means something that you can wear
everywhere that is not ridiculous,
that is, that makes sense with the complication of..
We must refuse the definition of glamour
without ever being any less glamorous.
That makes sense with the mess of life
for countries all over the places,
the globalization and so on.
What is globalization?
