Diplo made quite the impression when he showed up to the 2019 VMAs red carpet on Monday night. Arriving in a Nudie-inspired suit—complete with custom embroidery by Fort Lonesome, and tie-dyed by The Elder Statesman—Diplo’s psychedelia-tinged outfit was inspired by his nomination for LSD, a collaborative supergroup comprised of Diplo, British producer Labrinth, and Sia. The acid-laced end product included patches of bright aquamarine Colorado River toads (whose skin glands secrete a DMT-adjacent hallucinogen), and the MTV moonman lifting off into space clasping magic mushrooms.
Now, Diplo’s shared an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at his big VMAs night. From trying to convince his managers to allow him to show up to the ceremony sans-shirt (and then getting envious of fellow red carpet-goers who actually did), to taking selfies on the red carpet, Diplo’s night didn’t end when the VMAs finished. Naturally, the DJ spun records at an afterparty, dancing alongside Miley Cyrus in a cowboy hat, and even made time for a Popeyes pit stop.
