It’s no secret that Kate Middleton is a big fan of a sleek, chic coat. The Duchess of Cambridge rarely makes a public appearance without one; over the years, she’s worn just about every style of outerwear, from tailored coat-dresses to sporty puffer jackets. This time, however, she styled her outerwear in a much more unexpected way—shedding her usual silhouette for a style that’s currently trending.
The Duchess typically favors a sweet, retro sensibility that’s all about a more buttoned-up vibe, but her take on the camel coat today saw her embrace a more casual, ’70s-inspired aesthetic. She wore the sold-out coat with a black turtleneck and gold medallion necklace, a leopard Zara skirt that’s on sale for under $15, and slouchy suede knee boots. This throwback look was a major trend on the fall runways, particularly at Celine—Middleton looks like she hopped right off the label’s groovy catwalk. It might be a brand new look for the Duchess, but she wears it well.
