Robyn concerts inspire a certain kind of joy. For those who didn’t attend her show in New York last week, the scene on the subway platform at 34th Street gave a sense of the euphoria: Throngs of fans who had just seen the Swedish pop star perform at Madison Square Garden followed up the event with a full-out singalong and impromptu dance party while waiting for their train ride home.
Robyn’s supporting act for the tour, British artist Kindness, has channeled that effervescence into their (Kindness uses they/them pronouns) tour wardrobe: The producer and singer-songwriter brought gauzy looks by rising Swedish designer Selam Fessahaye to the massive stadiums that they’ve been playing across the country. After five years without a new release of their own, Kindness returned last week with the Robyn-featuring “Cry Everything,” so it’s only natural that they’re accompanying Robyn on tour.
Kindness’s Fessahaye tour wardrobe is something of a happy accident—they borrowed some clothes from Fessahaye to wear on vacation in India and forgot to take them out of their suitcase before going on tour. Given how good the semi-sheer, sky blue cropped jackets and silky baby pink suit look onstage though, it’s a good thing they forgot to give them back.
